M3GAN is outperforming its predicted $26.7 million opening weekend at the domestic box office. According to reports, a sequel is already in development. The film grossed $11.4 million, including previews, in 3,509 theaters on Friday.

Gerard Johnstone directs the horror film, which is based on a screenplay by Akela Cooper and a story by Cooper and James Wan. The plot follows, “M3GAN is an artificial intelligence marvel, a lifelike doll programmed to be a child’s best friend and a parent’s best ally. M3GAN, designed by Gemma, a brilliant roboticist, can listen, observe, and learn while acting as a companion, teacher, friend, and protector. When Gemma is unexpectedly left with her 8-year-old niece, she chooses to give the girl an M3GAN prototype, a choice that has unforeseeable results.”

M3GAN Premiere Reports Are Formidable

On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored 94%. Reports indicate that the film is highly enjoyable and a horror-comedy. The film stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis, Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Stephane Garneau-Monten, Jack Cassidy, and Lori Dungey.

M3GAN is now playing in theaters.
