Netflix renewed The Sandman for a season 2. In a Twitter post, Neil Gaiman shared the short announcement video and quoted “The rumours are true. Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have been watching Sandman, and the thing we were all hoping would happen… has indeed happened…” Check out the post below.


The Sandman season 1, with 10 episodes premiered in August 2022. According to Netflix reports, the show has watch hours of 69.5M in its first week and doubled in its second to 127.5M. Netflix’s dark fantasy series is based on Gaiman’s DC Comics series of the same name. it follows, Dream played by Tom Sturridge, one of the seven Endless, a familial group of cosmic entities as old as time itself. As his names indicate, he is the sole ruler of the Dream Realm, responsible for the forging and shaping of the dreams and nightmares that are experienced by all mortal beings.

Gaiman told “There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them…Now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell” ‘The Sandman’ has been renewed for a second season. (Via The Sandman Twitter)

According to Netflix’s synopsis for the series, “There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.”


The series also stars Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthian, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, David Thewlis as John Dee, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Ferdinand Kingsley as Hob Gadling, Sandra James-Young as Unity Kinkaid, Kyo Ra as Rose Walker, Melissanthi Mahut as Calliope, and Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall.


Allan Heinberg served as showrunner. Gaiman served as executive producer along with David Goyer. The Blank Corporation, Phantom Four, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Television are the production companies.

The Sandman season 2 release date is TBA on Netflix.
