In House of the Dragon, Cooke played Queen Alicent Hightower. The series is a prequel to Game of Thrones and is based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. She appeared in the second half of the series as the wife of King Viserys I Targaryen. According to Cooke, she was surprised by the attention she received after 10 years of working in the industry.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar UK, Cooke said, “It’s different, for sure,” she explains. “When my episodes aired, I was subject to immediate visibility that I hadn’t experienced before when I was walking down the street. I’m so naïve, but I think I was purposely so because I didn’t want to confront this anxiety.”
House of the Dragon season 1 is now streaming on HBO Max.
