Years and Years singer Olly, who received great acclaim for his breakthrough performance in Russell T Davies‘ Channel 4 drama about a group of young homosexual friends living in London amid the AIDS epidemic, is said to be at an “advanced stage” in talks with BBC executives.
It comes after Russell, who was once a Doctor Who writer and producer, said that Olly would be perfect for the job.

“Russell — with whom he has already collaborated on various projects — has strongly championed him for the part. Russell was delighted with his work and thought he would be a good match for the Doctor.”

They went on to say that it was “absolutely occurring” and that Olly “had to remain quiet” about it during negotiations.
