Glover, who came up with the concept and pitched it to his buddy and co-star in Solo: A Star Wars Story, is still involved as a co-creator, executive producer, and star. Through her overall agreement with Amazon, Francesca Sloane, who worked with Glover on FX’s Atlanta, remains co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer on the series. Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer of New Regency also executive produce.

According to sources, Waller-Bridge and Glover are still friends after their amicable breakup. The part of Waller-Bridge will now be replaced, with the series set to premiere in 2022. The series’ writing is already underway, with production set to begin next year.

The announcement comes seven months after the pairing of the two Emmy winners for the action-update thriller’s sparked a social media frenzy. Indy 5 is currently in development, while Waller-Bridge just contributed to the writing for the forthcoming James Bond film No Time to Die. Waller-Bridge is also an executive producer on AMC/BBC America’s Killing Eve’s forthcoming final season

Glover completed the third season of FX’s Atlanta in postproduction and is currently filming the fourth season, having written all of the scripts himself. The Emmy-winning comedy’s third season is set to premiere in the first half of 2022, with season four following a few months later.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is the result of Glover’s overall agreement with Amazon, which he inked in February. Glover is also working on Hive, a prospective series based on writer Janine Nabers that is said to focus around a Beyoncé-like character (Watchmen, Away). Malia Obama was among those recruited to work on the series earlier this year, according to insiders, and the project has already begun staffing a writers room.
