‘Real Steel‘ series is currently in development at Disney+. The series is based on the Real Steel (2011) film starring starred Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, and Anthony Mackie. Directed by Shawn Levy. Levy is extending the sport of robot boxing film into a miniseries. The series was developed by Disney Branded Television and produced by 20th Television in association with Levy’s 21 Laps, for its sister streamer. Executive produced by Levy, Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, Susan Montford, and Don Murphy. Netflix is currently searching for a writer for the series.
The “Real Steel” film follows Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) used to be a prizefighter but lost his chance to win a title when heavy, towering robots took over the boxing ring. Now working as a small-time promoter, Charlie pieces together scrap metal into low-end fighters, barely earning enough to make it from one underground venue to the next. After hitting rock bottom, Charlie reluctantly teams with his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo), to build and train a championship robot for a last shot at redemption.
The involvement of stars for the “Real Steel” Disney+ series is not yet revealed. Fans really wanna see Jackman, Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, and Anthony Mackie return to the series adaptation. If it is confirmed that the show would be a Reboot, that could be a huge disappointment for fans.
Shawn Levy, while promoting Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy, Levy makes it clear that “there is no Real Steel 2 currently greenlit or in pre-production somewhere.” But he also makes it clear that for the first time in a while, it’s legitimately possible we could get a sequel. Now the sequel turns into a series.
The casting is not yet revealed from the streaming platform. Shawn Levy previously planned to make a ‘Real Steel’ sequel with Hugh Jackman. Disney+ will announce the cast soon.
