Sam Reid, an Aussie actor, has been cast as the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt in AMC’s adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire, following in Tom Cruise’s footsteps.

Reid’s earlier TV appearances include The Hunting and Lambs of God, both from Australia, as well as the ITV mystery series Prime Suspect 1973.

Rice’s story was ordered to series by AMC in June, and the eight-episode first season is set to air in 2022 on both its cable network and streaming platform AMC+.

In a big agreement last year, the firm purchased 18 of Rice’s most renowned works, including chapters from both The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series. The interview is the first of a series of films that the network wants to release.

As previously stated, Cruise, Brad Pitt (as Louis de Pointe du Lac), Kirsten Dunst (as Claudia), and Christian Slater appeared in a 1994 feature picture directed by Neil Jordan. It received two Academy Award nominations (for Best Art Direction and Best Original Score), as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Dunst for supporting actress.

For years, a TV world based on The Vampire Chronicles has been in the works. Prior to AMC’s huge buy, it was rumoured that Rice and her son Christopher were working with producer Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) on a concept and that Hulu was interested. Fuller, on the other hand, stepped down in July 2018.
