MGM released the first trailer for Sarah Polley’s Women Talking. The film is based on a 2018 novel by Miriam Toews of the same name. “In 2010, the women of an isolated religious community grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith.” Watch the trailer below.
The film stars Rooney Mara as Ona Friesen, Claire Foy as Salome Friesen, Jessie Buckley as Mariche Loewen, Ben Whishaw as August Epp, Frances McDormand as Scarface Janz, Judith Ivey as Agata, Sheila McCarthy as Greta, Michelle McLeod as Mejal, Emily Mitchell as Miep Friesen, Liv McNeil as Nietje, Kate Hallett as Autje, August Winter as Nettie/Melvin, Shayla Brown as Helena, and Kira Guloien as Anna.
According to an NPR article, Women Talking plot follows, “There are eight women, two families, different generations, teenagers and then their mothers and their grandmothers, and all of the women have been attacked, have been raped, including the young children of the women there, and they have two days, 48 hours, to figure out what to do. The options they’re considering are to stay and fight, to leave, and to do nothing.”
Women Talking had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on September 2022. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 2, 2022.
