Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct the sequel of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Destin is already in development with Marvel Studios on a new MCU series for Disney+.

According to Deadline, Disney confirmed he will write and direct the upcoming sequel. Cretton is also working on a mystery MCU series for Disney+. Marvel president Kevin Feige said:

“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, starring Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung. With $224.5 million in its first weekend, the film is the highest-grossing domestic movie of the year. The film’s $94.6 million opening weekend box office record indicated a recovery for the pandemic box office and encouraged rival studios to retain their major releases scheduled for the rest of the year in theatres during the epidemic as audiences made a point of returning. Shang-Chi has made close to $432 million worldwide.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2 will start filming in 2022 and is expected to hit the theaters in 2023.
