Snake Eyes G.I. Joe Origins Review: Henry Golding Steals With Outstanding Performance

Snake Eyes G.I. Joe Origins Review: Henry Golding

Henry Golding moves the focus from rom-com idol to full-fledged action hero, proving that he can lead a series.

After saving the life of their heir apparent, the Arashikage, an ancient Japanese clan, accepts stubborn loner Snake Eyes (Henry Golding). When he arrives in Japan, the Arashikage instructs him in the ways of the ninja fighter while also giving him a house, something he has been pining for. When truths from Snake Eyes’ background are uncovered, his integrity and loyalty are put to the test – even if it means betraying those closest to him.

This is what I refer to as the character’s “true backstory.” Snake Eyes’ history was only hinted at in the earlier G.I. Joe films, and it was underwhelming. Snake Eyes is a reboot of the franchise that gives the fan-favorite character a genuine and more realistic history. The film delves more into Snake Eyes and Storm Shadows’ pasts, as well as their once-brotherly relationship.

It’s quite decent for a putative kid’s franchise film, but that’s really thanks to actor Henry Golding. I’ll just say it right now: Golding should be seriously considered for the role of James Bond. Snake Eyes proves that he possesses the necessary Bond qualities of beauty, charisma, glamour, danger, and the capacity to convey the most deadly ideas to an audience without saying a single word.

Although Snake Eyes isn’t a superhero, the picture has aspects of a Marvel film, and it might be a Fast & Furious spinoff if it had enough pulsing action-for-its-own-sake. Movies these days appear to be trapped in repeat mode, but Snake Eyes succeeds in making a rerun feel fresh.
