Even for one of Hollywood’s best living directors, those are pretty large shoes to fill. This is especially relevant given that West Side Story is Spielberg’s first musical. Tony Kushner, who authored the screenplay, and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, both regular Spielberg colleagues, are assisting him in this venture.

Zegler sings the famous ballad “Tonight” in the new trailer, which is actually only a small clip of one song from the show. Instead, we get a lot more of the basic narrative, some stunning musical performances, and a cast list for some of the main characters.
