Suddenly: Jake Gyllenhaal & Vanessa Kirby Will Cast In The Survival Thriller

Jake Gyllenhaal Appeared at the Paris premiere of 'Ambulance'

We can confirm that Oscar winners Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) and Vanessa Kirby (Pieces Of A Woman) will star in the survival thriller Suddenly, which is fast becoming one of the must-have packages at the Cannes virtual market. The film will be famous screenwriter Thomas Bidegain’s second directorial effort. He is recognized for penning critically praised films such as A Prophet, Rust And Bone, and Dheepan, which won the Palme d’Or. The English-language project is likewise scripted by Bidegain.

The film is based on Isabelle Autissier’s French-language novel Soudain Seuls, which follows a couple who become stuck on a South Atlantic island and must struggle for survival as their ideal vacation turns into a nightmare. The story sheds insight on their relationship’s dynamics while also holding up a mirror to current society.

On the blue-chip possibility, Studiocanal is joining up with Tresor Films and Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories to start world sales this week.

Alain Attal (Tell No One) and Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories (The Guilty) banner are the producers. Studiocanal is providing funding. True North Productions (Iceland) and Artemis Productions (Belgium) will co-produce.

Previously, Gyllenhaal and Bidegain collaborated on the film The Sisters Brothers. The actor’s most recent film appearance was in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and he has thrillers The Guilty, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and Ambulance, directed by Michael Bay, on the way.

The sought-after Kirby is riding a wave of success that includes The Crown (for which she won a BAFTA), three Mission Impossible films, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and the critically acclaimed Venice Film Festival duo Pieces Of A Woman (for which she won the festival’s best actress prize) and The World To Come.

“With Suddenly, I wanted to analyse the inner dynamics of a relationship stripped of all the artifices of the contemporary world, when confronting life and death crises in a magnificent but hazardous environment,” said writer-director Thomas Bidegain. Jake and Vanessa are a dream team who bring the picture to a whole new level, and they, along with our Studiocanal pals, are ideal collaborators on the project.”

“We are pleased to be working with such an extraordinary collection of creative talent that have come together for Suddenly,” said Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh. We’ve had a lot of success working with Alain Attal, a producer with immaculate taste, throughout the years. We instantly believed in this captivating story’s enormous global potential when he presented it to us. The whole Studiocanal crew is a huge admirer of Thomas’s work as a writer and director, and we can’t wait to watch two of our favorite performers, Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby, bring these profound yet difficult characters to life on screen together. We’ve wanted to collaborate with Nine Stories on a creative level for a long time.

On behalf of Gyllenhaal and Nine Stories, WME and attorney Carlos Goodman arranged the transaction. A date for the shoot has yet to be determined. Cat Person, starring Nicholas Braun and Emilia Jones, and Baghead, starring Freya Allan, are among Studiocanal’s virtual market offerings. CAA, Hamilton Hodell, Linden Entertainment, and Ziffren Brittenham represent Kirby. UTA and Film Talents both represent Bidegain. Hubert Caillard of Intervista represented Tresor Films.
