The Suicide Squad’s new and much-anticipated teaser has just been published as a YouTube advertisement, providing a decent taste of what’s to store in filmmaker James Gunn‘s take on the narrative. The forthcoming film has been touted as a standalone sequel, or soft reboot, of David Ayer’s critically panned Suicide Squad from 2016. Harley Quinn will be played by Margot Robbie, Captain Boomerang will be played by Jai Courtney, Amanda Waller will be played by Viola Davis, and Rick Flag will be played by Joel Kinnaman.
The first official teaser for The Suicide Squad was published a few months ago, and it revealed the new crew, which includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, and Sylvester Stallone as King Shark. The teaser also teased a few important narrative themes that will be covered in the film, which promises to be action-packed. The final trailer for The Suicide Squad is now available, following Gunn’s previous hint regarding the film’s approaching release date.
The trailer frames up Bloodsport as the main character as he struggles to connect w/ his daughter while behind bars. And credit to Viola Davis – even her brief parts in the trailer as Amanda Waller are memorable and tremendous. She gives SO much to this role & every role.
The Suicide Squad’s latest trailer is a YouTube advertisement that begins with glimpses of Elba’s Bloodsport completing his prison sentence while refusing to join Waller’s Suicide Squad as she sneers behind him before answering, “we’ll see.” Bloodsport is then seen having a hazy chat with his daughter, who informs him that her court date is approaching and that Waller might be able to assist her. Bloodsport does not take this well, as he is soon confronted by Waller, who is threatening her with a pen to her neck. After underlining the importance of the mission and how much she needs Bloodsport’s participation, Waller appears to finally persuade him to participate.
Waller then goes on to say that each member was chosen for their distinct talents. A small glimpse of the squad’s hilarious camaraderie is revealed while on route to their mission, with Blackguard immediately believing that The Weasel is actually a werewolf, nearly aborting the mission out of terror, and Harley Quinn apologizing for coming late due to needing “gotta go number 2.” After afterward, Waller can be heard saying that their objective is to “delete all trace of something known only as Project Starfish,” likely referring to the film’s antagonist, Starro. The Thinker appears as well, warning them that their objective is, well, suicide.
With his recent announcement that nearly all of the characters in the film would die, it appears like The Suicide Squad will not only deliver the promised action this summer but also some tears. In the trailers for Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2, they both swear they’ll get each other out alive, which might be a portent of their destinies. So far, the picture appears to be a box office triumph, not only because of the scenes, cinematics, and comedy displayed in the video but also because of the star-studded cast, who appear to be giving their roles a high degree of commitment.
