The Boys season 3: Jensen Ackles, a Supernatural veteran, has been cast as Soldier Boy in season 3 of The Boys, as revealed in a first-look photo showing him dressed up (and suit up) as the character ripped from the original Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comics.
Soldier Boy is the first superhero, resembling Captain America. He’s also the head of the Payback squad, which was the premiere group of superheroes before the Seven was founded in the show’s universe.
Soldier Boy was active during World War II in the 1940s, at a period when Vought creator Frederik Vought had “real uses of Compound V tested in the field,” according to Giancarlo Esposito’s Mr. Edgar in season 2. One of the applications was titled “Soldier Boy slaughtering Germans by the thousands.”
The Boys costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, who developed Ackles’ uniform alongside concept artist Greg Hopwood, said in a statement, “Soldier Boy is the original badass.” “Our intention was to bring attention to a bygone age of bravado and tenacity. We dived deep into baking in an all-American quality founded in a military soldier’s pragmatism with a big dose of old-school cowboy swagger, thanks to that background. We knew the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops, as well as a John Wayne attitude, and thankfully, Jensen Ackles fits the bill.”
Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capon, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, and Doumit return for Season 3, which is now in production.
Katia Winter, who has previously been in Dexter and Sleepy Hollow, will also play Little Nina.
