The Despicable Me franchise has now earned $4 billion worldwide. The franchise began with Despicable Me (2010) and was followed by two sequels, Despicable Me 2 (2013) and Despicable Me 3 (2017), and two spin-off prequels, Minions (2015) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022).
Previously the franchise was $3.7 billion globally, with the release of Minions: The Rise of Gru, the franchise grossed $4 billion worldwide and the film has grossed $248 million worldwide so far. It is the sequel to the spin-off prequel Minions (2015) and the fifth entry overall in the Despicable Me franchise.
The Despicable Me film franchise is produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It centers on Gru, a super-villain (who later becomes a dad and secret agent), his yellow-colored Minions; his three adoptive daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, and his wife, Lucy Wilde.
The latest installment in the Despicable Me franchise is Minions: The Rise of Gru. The film is directed by Kyle Balda, with Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val as co-directors, the film features Steve Carell reprising his role as Gru and Pierre Coffin as the Minions, with Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin.
