Prepare to have adrenaline injected right into your brain’s nostalgic lobes. In the first Masters of the Universe: Revelation trailer, He-Man returns to Eternia, complete with a blood-pumping ’80s soundtrack (courtesy of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out For a Hero”) and medieval swords and sorcery. Skeletor, now portrayed by Mark Hamill, commands the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull to “call your champion” (Susan Eisenberg). Kevin Smith co-created and executive produces Revelation, which follows up immediately after the events of the legendary 1980s animation.
The Revelation teaser trailer features well-known characters such as Evil-Lyn (now voiced by Lena Headey from Game of Thrones), Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Cringer (Barry’s Stephen Root), Orko (Griffin Newman from The Tick), and more. With the release of the first footage from Revelation comes word that Netflix will air an official aftershow on Friday, July 23 – the same day that the first five episodes of Part 1 of the season will be released on the streaming platform. Smith, Revelation executive producer and Mattel Television Vice President of Content Creative Rob David, and actress Tiffany Smith will host the aftershow (Andra).
The trailer’s animation is also excellent at hyping up spectators, demonstrating a smooth transition from its predecessor’s meme-worthy style to the more intense animated format. Though Noah Centineo’s resignation from the role of He-Man has put the live-action feature revival in jeopardy, the universe of He-Man is just around the corner, with Masters of the Universe: Revelation premiering its first five episodes and an aftershow special on July 23. Eternia and sister planet Etheria aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, with a sequel in the works alongside the CG series and the possibility of a crossover with She-Ra.
