A new trailer for HBO Max’s The Last of Us has been dropped. The series is an adaptation of a 2013 video game of the same name by Naughty Dog. The plot focus on Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler who is tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the post-apocalyptic United States. Watch the trailer below.
The series was developed as a joint production by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, The Mighty Mint, and Word Games. The show is created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO. In an interview, Druckmann said, “Our approach for The Last of Us was, ‘Let’s make it as an indie film. Let’s approach it as an indie film team, the way it’s shot [and in terms of] how small and intimate it feels.” Druckman added, “And with the show, we get to lean into that even more because we don’t have to have as many action sequences as we do in the game.”

“THE LAST OF US takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Nico Parker as Sarah, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Storm Reid as Riley Abel, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, and Elaine Miles as Florence.
The Last of Us contains nine episodes, which are written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Jan. 15, 2023.
