HBO Max unveiled the first trailer for “The Last of Us” series. The American post-apocalyptic is based on Naughty Dog’s 2013 video game of the same name. it is developed by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO Max. The streamers confirmed that “The Last of Us” will premiere in 2023, but the exact date is not yet revealed. Watch the trailer below.

According to HBO’s logline, “The Last of Us” plot follows “The series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Also joining the cast are Gabriel Luna as Joel’s younger brother and former soldier, Tommy; Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene; and Anna Torv as Tess, a smuggler, and fellow hardened survivor. The series will guest star Nico Parker as Sarah, Joel’s 14-year-old daughter; Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman as Frank and Bill, two post-pandemic survivalists living alone in their own isolated town; Storm Reid as Riley, an orphan in Boston; and Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, a rebel in a quarantine zone.

Executive produced by Craig and Druckmann, of The Last of Us and Uncharted video game franchises. Carolyn Strauss will also serve as executive producer, along with Evan Wells from the original game’s developer, Naughty Dog, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.
