The Pod Generation Will Be Starring Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor to star in sci-fi rom-com ‘The Pod Generation.’

The plot follows Rachel (Clarke) and Alvy (Ejiofor), a New York couple who are ready to take their love to the next level and conceive a family in the near future where AI is all the rage and nature is becoming a distant memory. Rachel’s employment allows them to try out a new tool invented by Pegasus, which allows couples to share pregnancy on a more equal footing by using removable artificial wombs, or pods. Alvy, a botanist, and a devout purist, has reservations, but his love for Rachel motivates him to take a chance. In this strange new world, the rollercoaster trip to parenthood begins.

“The Pod Generation” filming will start in March 2022.


Barthes said to variety that “Working with Emilia and Chiwetel as a couple on screen is a dream come true, Emilia’s versatility, her disarming sense of humor, and capacity to navigate complex emotions are a perfect match to Chiwetel’s charisma and extraordinary screen presence.”

Barthes added that the “idea of the artificial womb as either doom or liberation for women is inherently comedic material.”

Andrij Parekh, cinematographer on HBO’s “Succession” and “Scenes from a Marriage,” as well as “Blue Valentine” and “Watchmen,” will be the cinematographer of the film. Shane Valentino, the production designer on “Nocturnal Animals” and “Batman Begins,” and Evgueni and Sasha Galperine, the composers of “Happening,” “Loveless,” and “The Past,” are among the other major crew members.
