Marvel fans expected a ‘Secret Wars’ surprise on the upcoming 2022 San Diego Comic-Con Panel. But now, The Russo Brothers say they have had no conversations with Marvel about directing ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

Speaking to MTV News podcaster Josh Horowitz during the promotion of The Gray Man Joe & Anthony Russo confirmed that they have had no conversations with Marvel about directing ‘Secret Wars’. No announcement this week at Comic-Con. Sorry guys. But maybe one day.

“Our love for Marvel is based on the books that we read as kids, the books that we fell in love with,” said Joe during a recent interview with Deadline. “The one series that we adored growing up was Secret Wars.”

According to Marvel Database, Secret Wars is based on the most powerful heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe square off on Battleword with the victor promised their greatest dreams and desires! Writer Jim Shooter and artists Mike Zeck and Bob Layton introduce the Beyonder in a 12-issue event featuring the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Magneto, Doctor Doom, and more.

Anthony and Joe Russo directing The Gray Man is a film based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Dhanush, Alfre Woodard, and Billy Bob Thornton. The film follows, “When the CIA’s most skilled mercenary known as Court Gentry, aka Sierra Six, accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets, he becomes a primary target and is hunted around the world by psychopathic former colleague Lloyd Hansen and international assassins.”

The Gray Man will premiere on Netflix on July 22.
