The Zac Efron-led Firestarter remake by Blumhouse has begun production.

After 37 years since the cinema premiere of the Drew Barrymore-led Firestarter remake in 1984, Blumhouse Productions took to Twitter to confirm that production on Universal Pictures’ next Firestarter remake had finally commenced. The movie will be directed by Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman) and Michael Greyeyes and will be based on Stephen King’s iconic horror sci-fi thriller novel of the same name (Fear the Walking Dead)

Keith Thomas (The Vigil) will direct the Firestarter remake, which is based on a script written by Scott Teems. It’s produced by Jason Blun and Akiva Goldsman and comes from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Weed Road Productions. Martha De Laurentiis, the original film’s associate producer, will serve as executive producer.
