Damien Chazelle’s ‘Babylon’ first footage has been screened at the CinemaCon 2022. The star-studded film is based on the period drama of Hollywood’s golden era. The film stars Brad Pitt as silent film star John Gilbert and Margot Robbie as Roaring Twenties icon Clara Bow. alongside Pitt and Robbie, the Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire also part of the film, Tobey serves as an executive producer and also plays the role of Charlie Chaplin.
Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon hinted that “Babylon” is a period piece set in the late 1920s during the movie industry’s transition from silent films to talkies. The first footage reveals the film is a mix of Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” See the first look image below.
The filming was held in California in mid-2020 after securing a state tax credit. However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and instead began filming in July and the filming completely wrapped in October. A test screening was held by Paramount Pictures in March, The film runtime was reportedly three hours long.
The other cast includes Li Jun Li as Anna May Wong, Jovan Adepo, Diego Calva, Katherine Waterston, Max Minghella as Irving Thalberg, Flea, Samara Weaving, Lukas Haas, Rory Scovel, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne, Damon Gupton, Olivia Wilde. Spike Jonze, Phoebe Tonkin, Jean Smart, Chloe Fineman, and Jeff Garlin.
“Babylon” will hit theaters on December 25, 2022.
