Those speculations were usually met with suspicion from UFC president Dana White, who consistently dismissed the notion that Diaz would fight anytime soon.

Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a decision to former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in 2015, a fight that was later ruled a no-contest when Silva tested positive for banned drugs. Following that uproar, Diaz was hit with his own when the Nevada State Athletic Commission handed him a five-year suspension after he tested positive for marijuana for the third time in the state. Diaz’s sentence was later reversed, and he was instead suspended for 18 months by the commission.
