UFC Vegas 30:Ciryl Gane Dominates Volkov And He’s Ready For The Title Shot

Ciryl Gane is a formidable opponent. Though Alexander Volkov provided some competition at times – the first and fourth rounds were especially close – Gane controlled the pace for almost the entire contest with a stiff jab that frustrated Alexander Volkov to no end.

Many UFC Vegas 30 viewers were disappointed by Gane’s lack of a killer instinct, with the former kickboxer contesting to pick apart the big Russian rather than looking for a finish. The lack of drama disappointed fans who expected the type of brute violence that is typical of heavyweight MMA.

The 31-year-old Frenchman has only fought nine times in his pro MMA career, which began less than three years ago. He’s getting better with each outing, but he’s still figuring it out. Gane increased his aggression as the fight progressed against Volkov, who is only a year and a half his senior but has been in the game for a long time. That is something he did not do in February when he easily defeated Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
