In terms of Gosling, the character might be some of the most well-cast in recent years, which is likely to excite fans even more about what to expect from the film. The Oscar nominee just concluded filming on The Gray Man, a Netflix action film in which he co-stars with Chris Evans and is directed by the Russo Brothers.

After appearing opposite Harrison Ford in ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ Gosling starred as iconic astronaut Neil Armstrong in ‘First Man.’ Because of his hectic schedule, Gosling first turned down the role, but while pre-production dragged on and the studio remained adamant that he was their sole choice, an opening in his calendar opened, allowing him to sign on.

With Gosling on the edge of signing on, the project appears to be on the approach of getting the green light, with production set to begin in early 2022. Gerwig and Noah Baumbach collaborated on the writing. The plot details are not yet revealed.

In July, Variety reported “Barbie” was set to start production in early 2022 at WB’s Leavesden Studios in London, with a planned 2023 theatrical release.
