Watchmen: producer Tom Spezialy Is Set To Serve As Showrunner For The Live-Action ‘SILK’ Series For Amazon

Tom Spezialy has signed an overall deal with HBO after serving as an executive producer on the Emmy-winning limited series Watchmen.
According to my sources, Spezialy will serve as executive producer/showrunner on the series alongside executive producer Lauren Moon, who wrote the Silk TV adaptation based on the Korean-American comic book superhero created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos and is a writer on Sony TV’s Netflix series Atypical.

Amazon Studios is involved in all of this. Under the terms of the agreement, I understand Spezialy has joined Silk, Sony Pictures Television’s next live-action Marvel series, which is said to be heading to Amazon Prime Video as an SVOD distributor. Amazon and Sony representatives declined to comment.

Silk is executive produced by Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Phil Verse’s Lord and Chris Miller, who manages Sony’s suite of TV shows based on Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters.

Spezialy was an executive producer on another comic book TV adaptation, Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. He also executive produced The Leftovers, Desperate Housewives, Reaper, and Dead Like Me for Starz and co-created Ash vs Evil Dead. Manage-ment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman represent him.

In April 2014, Silk (aka Cindy Moon) made her debut appearance as a faceless cameo in Marvel Comics’ The Amazing Spider-Man #1. She was a member of the new Agents of Atlas squad, which made their début in a War of the Realms tie-in before getting their own five-issue limited series. The COVID-19 epidemic forced the postponement of a new Silk ongoing series by writer Maruene Goo and illustrator Takeshi Miyazawa, which was planned to be released in July 2020. In March of 2021, it was released. Tiffany Espensen has played the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
