Rachel Zegler’s entry into the film industry begins this year with her role as Maria in ‘West Side Story’. She is currently filming an unknown key role in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ before taking on the titular role in Disney’s live-actionSnow White’ remake in 2022. In Disney’s live-action adaptation of the studio’s first animated feature picture, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, initially released in 1937, Zegler will play the prettiest of them all.

The film will be directed by Marc Webb and will follow a princess who is fed a poisoned apple by her stepmother, the queen, and then goes into a profound slumber that can only be awakened by a kiss from the prince.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, creators of The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen, will compose new songs for the film. The songs “Heigh-Ho,” “Someday My Prince Will Come,” and “Whistle While You Work” were on the original soundtrack.

In 2022, the film is expected to begin production. After a countrywide search, Zegler was cast as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. It will be Zegler’s first time on screen when the film opens in December, after being put back many times owing to the COVID-19 theatre shutdowns. She also starred alongside Zachary Levi in the DC comic book sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
