World on Fire Season 2 has started production. World on Fire is based on the hidden lives of ordinary people from Britain, Poland, France, Germany, and the United States during World War II. The drama switches its scenes between various locations in France, Britain, Germany, and Poland. It features repeated visits to Paris, Warsaw, Manchester, Berlin, and Dunkirk.

“World on Fire tells the hidden human stories within the big historical events we think we know. From Harry, a young English translator in Warsaw caught up in negotiations with the Nazis and trying to smuggle his Polish lover Kasia out of the country, to Lois, the girl who is waiting for him at home, a young Mancunian factory worker who will come to take all the opportunities the war can offer to live a different kind of life. To Nancy, a female US war correspondent who can’t find peace unless her life is at risk, to the Rossler family in Berlin, worried for their soldier son and willing to do anything to protect their disabled daughter from the attentions of the ruling Nazi regime.

Written by Peter Bowker. The series stars Julia Brown as Lois Bennett, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Stan Raddings, Jonah Hauer-King as Harry Chase, Sean Bean as Douglas Bennett, Lesley Manville as Robina Chase, Helen Hunt as Nancy Campbell, Patrick Kennedy as Campbell, Ewan Mitchell as Tom Bennett, Parker Sawyers as Albert Fallou, Brian J. Smith as Webster O’Connor, and Zofia Wichłacz as Kasia Tomaszeski.

Susanne Simpson, the executive producer of PBS Masterpiece, revealed in a 2019 interview with Town & Country that Season 2 will focus on the year 1940 and how World War II affected people throughout the United Kingdom and Europe during that pivotal period. Additionally, Bowker has already previewed several of the big storylines for the upcoming season. “There will be a meeting between Kasia [Zofia Wichlacz] and Lois [Julia Brown] in Season 2, and the aftermath from that meeting, I believe, will be exciting and engaging for everyone.”
