Marvel has helmed a new director for the upcoming Blade movie. According to THR, French-Algerian film director Yann Demange is set to direct Blade. Demange previously directed the acclaimed independent film ’71 (2014) and the TV debuts Dead Set (2008) and Top Boy (2011).
In the film, Mahershala Ali will reprise his role as Eric Brooks/Blade. Bassam Tariq was previously on board to direct the film. In September 2022, the news came that he stepped down as the director of the film due to shifts in the film’s production schedule, but he still served as executive producer. The filming is set to begin at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta in 2023.
The script is penned by Michael Starrbury, and the plot details are kept under wraps, but it is confirmed it will be a reboot of the Blade franchise. In the MCU, Ebony Blade appeared alongside Blade (the voice) in Eternals.
The Blade character was created by Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan for 1973’s The Tomb of Dracula No. 10. Blade is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires in order to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him.
‘Blade’ will hit theaters on September 6, 2024. Changes may happen on the release date.
