Shazam! hasn’t been seen in a while. Despite the fact that we haven’t seen Fury of the Gods yet, we did receive a significant surprise from the anticipated sequel today courtesy of these new set images. We got our first peek at the new Shazam! in the new photographs. Zachary Levi wears a sleek new suit that he looks great in (via Just Jared). The new outfit is slimmer and less cumbersome, with the large lightning bolt in the middle reduced down to a more manageable size.
The glowing energy portion in the middle of the bolt is also removed, and these shots reveal new gauntlets and a reworked belt. We also don’t see the cape in these shots, though it might be due to the way things are shot.
Because the cape is one of the most iconic features of the outfit, it’s likely that we’ll see it again in the sequel. The suit appears to be somewhat different from that shown in the original film, but it still feels like a comic-book suit brought to life in many respects, and it will most likely look fantastic in action. Levi is all grins in the images, which were taken today in Union City, Georgia.
Because the big-budget sequel isn’t planned to enter cinemas until 2023, there’s still a lot of filming to be done, so these will likely be the first of many set shots we’ll see in the interim. Fans have already expressed their opinions on the new outfit, which you can see starting on the following slide.
