Netflix has released the first trailer for ‘Rustin,’ starring Colman Domingo as Bayard Rustin, the openly gay Black civil rights leader who dedicated his life to racial equality. Domingo portrays the driving force behind the 1963 March on Washington. The film arrives on Netflix on November 17th. Watch the trailer below.
Directed by George C. Wolfe with a screenplay by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black from a story by Breece. The film is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company Higher Ground Productions.
What is the Plot of ‘Rustin’?
The architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, Bayard Rustin was one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known. He challenged authority, and never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired. And he did not back down. He made history, and in turn, he was forgotten. Rustin shines a long overdue spotlight on the extraordinary man who, alongside giants like the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell Jr., and Ella Baker, dared to imagine a different world and inspired a movement in a march toward freedom.
The film also stars Chris Rock as Roy Wilkins, Glynn Turman as A. ‘Rustin’ will debut at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival on September 13. It’s set to hit theaters on November 3 and then arrive on Netflix on November 17.
