The writers’ room for Netflix’s ‘One Piece‘ season 2 has reopened following the conclusion of the WGA strike, as officially confirmed by co-showrunner Matt Owens.

In a Deadline interview, Owens confirmed that ‘One Piece’ Season 2 writing has restarted after the WGA strike. He shares the main theme, discusses the Season 1 finale’s setup, and offers clues for manga fans.

Owens said, “I’ve been an anime fan my entire life. One Piece specifically, which I tried to dive into when I was younger, and getting into a lot of other series like Naruto, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball Z. But One Piece was a little difficult because the company that was dubbing it in English notoriously did a horrible job.”

Owens continued, “We were very close. I had just gotten to Tokyo to meet with Oda again in April and have conversations with him about where the cuts were, some things that he wanted to see. So we were back in post when the strike hit. We were picture-locked on most things; there was still a lot of visual effects, final music; it was mostly finals. I’d seen stages of the majority of it, which was another heartbreaking thing about it — I didn’t get to finish the show.”

There is a rumor circulating that Jamie Lee Curtis is cast to play the role of Dr. Kureha in Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Season 2. Lee Curtis already said that she’ll lobby for the role of Dr. Kureha in season 2 once “the strike against the greed of the AMPTP is settled with a fair contract.”

Recently, ‘One Piece’ has been renewed for Season 2 on Netflix. Season 1 is the No. 1 show in 86 countries, breaking its previous record of 84 countries. It also outperformed “Stranger Things” Season 4 and “Wednesday,” which were ranked No. 1 in 83 countries. Also, it debuted at the top of Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10 with 18.5 million views (140.1 million hours), making it the highest-ranking English TV series since the chart reform in June 2023. Currently, it holds the title of the most popular TV show on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.

‘One Piece,’ a live-action series based on Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga, is a co-production between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, with Netflix overseeing physical production. The show is written and executive produced by Steven Maeda, with Matt Owens also serving as a writer and executive producer. Additionally, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, along with Eiichiro Oda, the manga’s author, are executive producers.

The cast of ‘One Piece’ includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, Vincent Regan as Monkey D. Garp, Peter Gadiot as Shanks, Langley Kirkwood as Morgan, Celeste Loots as Kaya, Alexander Maniatis as Klahadore, Bianca Oosthuizen as Sham, Chanté Grainger as Banchina, Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff, and Milton Schorr as Don Krieg.

‘One Piece’ season 1 is now available on Netflix.
