Report: DC Studios Reportedly Developing Animated 'Jurassic League' Feature

DC Studios is reportedly developing an untitled animated feature based on ‘Jurassic League‘.

James Gunn, Co-CEO of DC Studios, will produce the film, with Brian Lynch (‘Minions’) penning the script. The animated feature explores a prehistoric version of Earth where heroes and villains are depicted as dinosaurs, similar to Sony’s Spider-Verse concept, as confirmed by Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider.

Do DC Superheroes Meet Dinosaurs Or Go To Prehistoric Worlds?

Yes, indeed! DC superheroes have encountered dinosaurs and visited prehistoric worlds in various storylines throughout DC Comics history. These adventures often involve time travel, alternate dimensions, or mystical forces. Characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League have faced dinosaurs on Dinosaur Island and been transported back to the age of dinosaurs.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Gunn discussed his approach to DC’s shared universe. Gunn said, “If you look at the MCU, there are very few traditional superheroes.” Gunn added, “There was never a guy with a secret identity until Spider-Man in the MCU. Their Captain America was turned into a soldier, even though he wears a mask. Iron Man outed himself at the end of the first Iron Man because they didn’t want to deal with the whole secret identity stuff. But there is a bit more of a fantasy element to DCU because there are these larger-than-life superheroes, and for me, there’s Superman and Clark Kent. They’re two different characters, and you have to find a way to deal with them that’s as grounded as possible within this world of DC. One of the things that I love about DC that excites me about DC is that, in a way, it’s another alternate history. It is Gotham City and Metropolis, Star City and Bludhaven, and all these different places in this other reality, and it makes it a little bit like Westeros in some ways. I love it in that way. I love that we get to create true worldbuilding in DC; it isn’t just ‘we’re throwing some superheroes on Earth.’ I think right now, that’s one of the key differences.”DC Studios is reportedly developing an untitled animated feature based on ‘Jurassic League’.

In Gunn’s DC Universe slate, the upcoming movies include ‘Superman: Legacy,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ ‘Swamp Thing,’ and ‘The Authority.’ Additionally, there are HBO TV shows featuring ‘Waller,’ ‘Booster Gold,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and an animated ‘Creature Commandos‘ series.

As for the DCU, Gunn said, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year—a sort of aperitif to the DCU—and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn added, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories, and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”

Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
