Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are expanding the ‘M3GAN’ universe with a new erotic thriller, ‘SOULM8TE.’
According to Deadline, the film is described as a 1990s erotic thriller “with a new technological twist.” Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) is set to direct and has rewritten an original draft written by Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), with the story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan. The cast details have not yet been announced. As soon as production starts, they will be revealed.
What is Blumhouse’s ‘SOULM8TE’ About?
From the ‘M3GAN’ universe, ‘SOULM8TE’ follows a man who acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
In a statement, Dolan said, “Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness.” Dolan added, “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
Produced by James Wan and Jason Blum, ‘SOULM8TE’ will also have Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner as executive producers, along with Ingrid Bisu. Alayna Glasthal will serve as the executive leading the project for Atomic Monster.
Wan said, “SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”
Following the success of ‘M3GAN,’ a sequel titled ‘M3GAN 2.0‘ is scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2025, featuring returning cast members Allison Williams and Violet McGraw. ‘M3GAN’ was theatrically released in the United States on January 6, 2023, by Universal Pictures. The film grossed over $181 million worldwide against a budget of $12 million.
