A sixth installment in the Ice Age film series is in development at Disney, as confirmed by John Leguizamo, who plays Sid the Sloth in the films. The last film in the $6 billion franchise was released in 2016 (Ice Age: Collision Course). This was followed by some Disney+ original releases, such as the spin-off movie The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild and the short series Ice Age: Scrat’s Tales.
During a recent appearance on the NPR quiz show ‘Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,’ Leguizamo revealed that Disney is currently working on Ice Age 6.
Leguizamo said, “I’m so happy to hear that. We’re about to do Ice Age 6.”
Back in 2017, Ice Age: Collision Course director Michael Thurmeier wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that after the negative reception of the fifth film, he would like to make the sixth film to redeem the franchise and bring it back to its glorious days. He mentioned that he’s interested in focusing on the return of the human baby from the first film, Roshan, stating that “It will be an awesome movie.”
The Ice Age franchise consists of films, short films, TV specials, and a series of video games. The first five films were produced by Blue Sky Studios and distributed by its then-parent company—20th Century Fox (now known as 20th Century Studios). The films include Ice Age in 2002, Ice Age: The Meltdown in 2006, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 2009, Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012, and Ice Age: Collision Course in 2016. The franchise has generated $6 billion worldwide—making it one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. A standalone spin-off film, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, was released exclusively on Disney+ in January 2022—without Blue Sky’s involvement.
The cast of Ice Age includes Ray Romano as Manny, Leguizamo as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego, Queen Latifah as Ellie, Seann William Scott and Josh Peck as Crash and Eddie, Chris Wedge as Scrat, Jessie J as Brooke, Jennifer Lopez as Shira, Wanda Sykes as Granny, Simon Pegg as Buck, and Frank Welker as Fuzzy.
As of now, there is no official update from Disney about Ice Age 6. We hope to receive an official announcement soon. You can watch all Ice Age movies on Disney+ now.
