Ben Affleck (Justice League) and Matt Damon (Ford v Ferrari) are planning to start an independent production company named “Artists Equity.” The combo planned to share profits from their projects with their actors and off-camera artisans.
According to The New York Times, On Sunday, Affleck and Damon took a decision to start an independent production company, called Artists Equity. The combo has taken $100 million in financing from the investment firm RedBird Capital Partners.
In a phone conversation, Affleck told “This is the next act of my career for a long, long time.” Affleck added, Mr. Damon has committed to star in a set number of films (he wouldn’t say how many) and will produce exclusively for the company.
In a statement, Affleck said, “Artists Equity was conceived from Matt’s and my longtime passion for the art of storytelling and our shared desire to help creators deliver on their vision, as we have been fortunate to do throughout our careers.” Affleck also told, “Our goal with Artists Equity is to build a creator-focused studio that can optimize the production process with shared participation in the commercial success of projects. We are thrilled to partner with Gerry Cardinale and the RedBird team, who have a long track record of building notable scaled platform businesses around unique IP. Matt and I are looking forward to working together to empower the current and future creative minds in the entertainment industry.”
According to a source, The first project of Artists Equity is already in development. An untitled project that Affleck wrote and directed about the birth of Nike’s widely popular Air Jordan sneaker brand. In the pic, Damon plays the role of the Nike executive who made an endorsement deal with Chicago Bulls superstar Michael Jordan. Amazon Studios is part of the film, Skydance Sports and Mandalay Pictures will produce.
