Will Smith (Bad Boys for Life, Aladdin) is in talks to star in the Netflix action film Fast and Loose, with Michael Bay (Ambulance, 6 Underground) in negotiations to direct. The project has been developing since before the 2022 Oscars incident involving Smith. Director David Leitch exited the project before the Oscars to work on The Fall Guy, released in May 2023.
The screenplay is written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson.
What is the Plot of Fast and Loose?
The plot follows a crime boss—played by Smith—who loses his memory after an attack and gradually learns that he was leading a double life as a CIA agent.
Fast and Loose will be produced by Leitch and Kelly McCormick, representing 87North, alongside Smith. Robert Simonds and Noah Fogelson serve as executive producers for STXfilms.
Bay and Smith previously collaborated on the 1995 action-comedy Bad Boys and its 2003 sequel. Smith and Martin Lawrence reprised their roles in the latest installment, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which Sony released in June.
After the success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which grossed over $400 million globally, Smith entered talks to star in Sony’s sci-fi film Resistor, based on Daniel Suarez’s novel Influx. Additionally, I Am Legend 2 is currently in development, with Smith reprising his role as Robert Neville alongside Michael B. Jordan.
Bay is best known for the Transformers franchise. His latest directorial project was Ambulance (2022), starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. He also directed Netflix’s 6 Underground (2019), starring Ryan Reynolds.
Fast and Loose will begin filming in 2025, and the release date is TBA.
