(Note: This article contains major spoilers for James Gunn‘s Superman.)

Following the latest test screening for Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, many sources reported strange things about the movie. According to an insider who attended the screening, all the “online speculation is dead wrong.”

On Reddit, DCULeaks has shared the entire Superman test screening report, said “the film wasn’t a comedy, but did have funny moments in it,” “characters aren’t who people think they are,” and “most of the trailer scenes are from early in the film.”

Krypto plays an important role, but it felt a little tacked in. That part felt artificial and there is no after-credits scene. At least not that they were shown—one could be there.

They said, “Rick Flagg Sr. (Frank Grillo) is in the film, but his role is short, and there were no clear nods to Creature Commandos.

There was a small reference to [Amanda] Waller, but it was very subtle and easy to miss.

The source shared their overall thoughts, saying, “The film is good, from the perspective of someone who doesn’t follow DC films.”

The secondary plot focused on Lois and Clark. Brosnahan stole every scene she was in.

Nicholas Hoult was good as [Lex] Luthor, but he overacts a bit. He portrays anger very well, but in some scenes, he was a bit too much. His two goons were delightful and worked well with Lex’s energy. They helped, but they weren’t absolutely necessary. Some of the effects didn’t work very well, though it’s unclear if this was due to an early cut. The scenes at the ice palace were a little rough. Some of the effects with the big Kaiju were also rough, and its face looked a little goofy.

The Superman movie has a lot of characters, but it didn’t feel like they took away from the main plot. Recently, The InSneider reported that Superman currently has a runtime of roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The film stars Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Hoult as Lex Luthor, Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

The film is written and directed by Gunn and is the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn also produced the film with Peter Safran under DC Studios.

Here’s the plot details for Superman:

James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

Superman will hit theaters and IMAX across the United States on July 11, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
