According to the synopsis for Carrie — the new Prime Video series is described as a reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White — who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie must face the challenges of high school — a bullying scandal — and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Lillard teased how Mike Flanagan’s CARRIE series will be different from other adaptations:

Lillard said, “The exciting thing for me here is that he crafted an idea based around what we’re experiencing right now in the world… Mike [Flanagan] has found a way to make it relevant right now, and so I think that’s going to make a difference.

King’s novel has been made into movies before. Sissy Spacek played Carrie in the 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma, and Chloë Grace Moretz starred as Carrie in the 2013 remake.

In a statement, Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios said, “Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance.”

The screenplay is written by Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass), who also serves as executive producer and showrunner, and will direct select episodes. Trevor Macy is also an executive producer on the Amazon MGM Studios-produced project.

Carrie will contain eight episodes and will premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
