A new TV spot for James Gunn‘s Superman, featuring new footage, aired during the NBA Finals. DC Studios hasn’t released it officially yet, but we have high-quality footage — you can watch it below.
Most recently on X (formerly Twitter), James Gunn announced that Superman is 100% complete and ready for release. He said, “Thanks to all my collaborators! It has been a joy. And for the rest of you, I can’t wait for you to see the movie on July 11.”
The budget for Superman is reportedly $225 million. According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios/WBD “could spend as much as $200 million on the global marketing campaign [for Superman], compared with the usual $150 million for an all-audience summer tentpole.”

Speaking to Cinema Today Japan, Gunn said that Godzilla Minus One was a major influence on his Superman film. The trailer for Superman features giant, ferocious creatures called “kaiju” that breathe fire at Superman and destroy a city, similar to the monsters in Ultraman.
Gunn said, “I was influenced by special effects. I tried to fuse elements like giant monsters, robots, flying dogs, other superheroes…”
Here’s the logline from DC Studios for Superman: “In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
The film stars David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Juror #2) as Lex Luthor. The film also features Edi Gathegi (The Harder They Fall), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (the Guardians of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box), and Neva Howell (Greedy People).
DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn is directing from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC — Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Superman will be released in theaters and IMAX nationwide on July 11, 2025, and internationally beginning July 9, 2025. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
