The filming for Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI film Artificial has begun in San Francisco, California.
Following the start of production, Andrew Garfield — who plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman — was spotted on set wearing a silver puffer jacket, gray T-shirt, and jeans. See the images below.

The film is described as a “comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence.” Oscar nominee Yura Borisov is reportedly playing Ilya Sutskever, an OpenAI co-founder who led the movement to oust Altman.

Artificial centers around the company OpenAI and the tumultuous period in 2023 when its CEO, Sam Altman, was fired and rehired within just a few days, as reported by Variety.

“A darkly comic and dramatic retelling of the 2023 OpenAI boardroom saga, depicting Sam Altman’s firing and reinstatement as CEO amid high-stakes power struggles in the world of AI.”
In the image below, you can see the first look at Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, wearing a formal black suit.

The film also stars Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati, former chief technology officer of OpenAI, Barinholtz as Elon Musk, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, and Cooper Koch.
Simon Rich (An American Pickle) wrote the script and is producing the film alongside David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, and Jennifer Fox.
Artificial marks Guadagnino’s latest collaboration with Amazon MGM after After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri, which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival ahead of its October 10 theatrical release. Guadagnino has previously worked with the studio on Challengers (2024), Bones and All (2022), and Suspiria (2018).
Artificial will hit theaters in 2026, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios.
