The Aunt Gladys movie is in the works, confirms Weapons director Zach Cregger.
According to Cregger, he has plans to direct a Weapons prequel about Amy Madigan’s character Aunt Gladys. It centers on “Aunt Gladys, who becomes a wickedly talented occult expert.” Cregger says that he’s “pretty excited about it,” exploring Aunt Gladys’ backstory and the supernatural world seen in Weapons.

In a recent interview with Fangoria, Cregger said, “It’s real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit.” He added, “I was ready. I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.”
In Weapons, Gladys (Amy Madigan) comes to town claiming to be Alex’s (Cary Christopher) aunt. Using witchcraft, the withered old woman drains the life force of his parents (Whitmer Thomas and Callie Schuttera), then lures Alex’s classmates to his house to siphon energy from them as well.

Speaking to Deadline, the makeup department head Leo Satkovich, who worked on Aunt Gladys’s indelible look, revealed: “It’s something that’s so surreal to me that I feel like I’m still processing … We knew that we were creating a very special character. I personally just do not feel I was prepared for just how much of a chokehold the world was going to be in.”
Here’s the synopsis for Weapons:
From New Line Cinema and Cregger, the wholly original mind behind Barbarian, comes a new horror/thriller: Weapons.
