Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a two-season order for its live-action series adaptation of God of War.
According to Variety, the casting process has begun for the epic video game adaptation, with Emmy Award–winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys) set to direct the first two episodes of Season 1. The series is currently in pre-production.
As reported, the God of War series will adapt the Norse era, and the show’s tone will “emulate the tone of the game.” Filming to begin in March 2026 in Vancouver, Canada.
Recently, insider John Campea shared an unconfirmed shortlist of actors reportedly being considered for the role of Kratos. According to Campea, multiple sources mentioned the following names:
- Winston Duke (Black Panther, Us)
- Joe Manganiello (Justice League, True Blood)
- Christopher Judge (voice of Kratos in the games)
- Manu Bennett (Arrow, Spartacus)
- Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Game of Thrones)
- Travis Fimmel (Vikings)
- Olivier Richters (“The Dutch Giant”)

The show will adapt the story of Kratos beginning with the 2018 God of War game. The official logline reads: “God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.””
Moore serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner on God of War under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Additional executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, Ben McGinnis, and Jeff Ketcham serve as co-executive producers.
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Tall Ship is currently under an overall deal with Sony TV.
Season 1 of God of War will consist of 10 episodes and is set to premiere on Prime Video in 2027.
