Apple Original Films has released the first official look at Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
Filming is currently underway in Prague. The newly shared image features a rural setting, with the ground and nearby bushes covered in snow. Lawrence and DiCaprio are walking hand in hand toward a destination off-screen. They are dressed in period attire and have concerned looks on their faces. A taxi idles behind them, covered in snow. Directed by Scorsese, the film is based on the novel What Happens at Night by Peter Cameron, with a screenplay written by Patrick Marber. The film follows a married couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby but nothing is quite as it seems.
During filming, a few images of DiCaprio and Lawrence were spotted, featuring international settings and large-scale location work.

Cameron’s novel was released in 2020, and according to publisher Catapult Books, it follows “an unnamed American couple who travel to a strange, snowy European city to adopt a baby. It’s a difficult journey that leaves the wife, who is struggling with cancer, desperately weak, and her husband worries that her illness will prevent the orphanage from releasing their child.”
When the couple arrives in the strange city, the synopsis continues, they check into “the cavernous and eerily deserted Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel, where the bar is always open and the lobby is populated with an enigmatic cast of characters ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer. Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.”
Scorsese is producing the film under Sikelia Productions, while Jennifer Lawrence is executive producing through Excellent Cadaver. The project brings Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Apple together again after their Oscar-nominated film Killers of the Flower Moon. Lawrence has also made other Apple projects, including Causeway and Bread & Roses, and will star in the future film The Wives.
What Happens at Night will hit theaters in early 2027, by Apple Original Films.
