Amanda Seyfried had a costly miss in the MCU when she turned down the role of Gamora in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but she didn’t regret turning down the role.
In a recent interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations series, Seyfried opened up about the role of Gamora, which she turned down because she believed the movie would not be a hit.
Seyfried thought the movie might fail because it had a talking tree and a raccoon in space, and she feared that it could potentially damage her acting career.
Seyfried said, “I’m like, ‘This is not going to be a hit. The tree & the raccoon are talking to each other and also they’re all in space.’ I was just like, ‘This will ruin my career if this is bad. And there’s a high chance that this could be bad.’”

She now admits that she was wrong about the film’s chances of success. Despite Guardians of the Galaxy becoming a hit, Seyfried said she does not regret turning down the role. She made the decision based on her personal priorities and the family she knew she wanted to have. She also didn’t want to spend many hours in the makeup trailer.
Seyfried added, “I was wrong. But I still don’t take back that decision. I made it for myself. I made it for my family that I knew I wanted to have. And I just don’t want to spend all the time in the makeup trailer.”
“I really don’t like stunts, heights, or pretending to be in an entirely imaginary world. I need something to hold on to.”
With three main installments, the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise has grossed around $2.48 billion worldwide, making it one of Marvel’s successful film series. The trilogy features Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket.
All three Guardians of the Galaxy movies are now available to stream on Disney+.
