A sequel to Alien: Isolation is in development after 10 years.
On the 10th anniversary of Alien: Isolation‘s release, Creative Director Al Hope made the surprise announcement that development on the sequel has begun.
On X, @AlienIsolation shared the statement, which you can read below.
To our fans around the world:
It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of ALIEN: ISOLATION™.
When we started developing ALIEN: ISOLATION™, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the ALIEN™ franchise—a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.
It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world. Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams (!), and steely courage in the face of cinema’s greatest killer have been profoundly rewarding.
Whether you’re a Nightmare Mode veteran or stepping into Amanda Ripley’s shoes for that thrilling first attempt (good luck!), we want to express our deep gratitude. It was a dream project brought to life by a brilliant team, and the reception you have given it over the years is extraordinary.
On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.
Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION™ is in early development.
We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.
Once again, thank you.
Until next time,
Al Hope, Creative Director – ALIEN: ISOLATION
SEGA
Alien: Isolation was released on October 7, 2014, by Creative Assembly and SEGA. The game is set in the universe of the Alien film franchise—specifically taking place 15 years after the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien. The story follows Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Ellen Ripley, as she seeks to uncover the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. Amanda travels to a space station called Sevastopol, where she discovers a deadly alien (Xenomorph) that hunts the crew and inhabitants. Players must help Amanda survive by solving puzzles, avoiding the alien, and uncovering the station’s secrets.
Alien: Isolation sold over 2.1 million copies across all platforms. It was critically acclaimed for its atmospheric recreation of the original 1979 Alien film—particularly its visual design, soundscape, and survival horror tension. The game received the following ratings: IGN: 5.9/10, GamesRadar: 4/5, and Metacritic: ranging from 78 to 81.
Alien: Isolation won several awards, including Best Audio Achievement at the BAFTA Games Awards in 2015, recognizing its immersive sound design, and the Audio Achievement Award at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards. It was also nominated for various Game of the Year awards in the horror and design categories.
