The reason, which The Hollywood Reporter described as “amicable and stemming from timing issues,” However, his future return is always open at the studio.
According to reports, Legendary is planning to give the ‘Godzilla x Kong’ sequel a fresh start. It will focus more on Godzilla and be darker. But I am not sure whether it will explore more of Hollow Earth or not. Wingard has successfully directed the two Monsterverse films, ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘.
Recently, it was confirmed that Dave Callaham, the screenwriter of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been hired by the studio to pen the script for the film. The new director will be hired soon.
In ‘Godzilla vs. Kong 3‘, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle are expected to return. There is a possibility that Millie Bobby Brown may return as Madison Russell since she was missing in ‘The New Empire’ film.
‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ was released in theaters on March 29, 2024. The film has been a big success at the box office, grossing $555 million worldwide. This makes it the second highest-grossing Monsterverse film of all time, with ‘Kong: Skull Island‘ holding the top spot at $568 million.
The Legendary Monsterverse franchise has now earned $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office. In 2023, the TV show expanded based on the Monsterverse, with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, becoming the highest-rated Apple TV+ show. It has been renewed for a second season, and spin-offs are in the works.
The ‘Godzilla x Kong’ sequel is expected to begin filming in 2025, and we can expect a release date of 2026.
