Amazon Prime Video has officially announced that a ‘Tomb Raider‘ series is in the works.
Is the New ‘Tomb Raider’ Series in Development?
Amazon MGM Studio and Crystal Dynamics are teaming up to expand the ‘Tomb Raider’ universe. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write for and executive produce the show for Prime Video. The cast details are not yet revealed.
The news was revealed by Jen Salke, Head of Amazon & MGM Studios, at the company’s Upfront event in New York. She described the upcoming series as “epic” and “globe-trotting.”
Waller-Bridge said, “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators.” Waller-Bridge added, “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
The series is executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robbins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television, along with Crystal Dynamics. Greenblatt and Andolina serve as consulting producers under their Star Party banner. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios produce the series.
As per reports, Legendary is also involved as a rights holder for the ‘Tomb Raider’ series. Also, the company is behind an anime ‘Tomb Raider’ series set to premiere on Netflix.
There have been three Tomb Raider movies released: ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ (2001) and its sequel ‘Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life’ (2003), both starring Angelina Jolie, followed by the 2018 reboot ‘Tomb Raider’ starring Alicia Vikander.
