Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are set to play sisters in Amazon‘s “Kay Scarpetta” TV series. According to Deadline, Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta books have been adapted into a TV series for Amazon with Kidman as the title character and Oscar contender Jamie Lee Curtis as the famed forensic pathologist’s sister Dorothy.
The show is from writer-showrunner Liz Sarnoff (Barry) and Blumhouse Television. Prime Video has currently ordered two seasons of eight episodes each. Kidman is executive producing via Blossom Films and Curtis through Comet Pictures.
Kay Scarpetta, played by Nicole Kidman, is a talented forensic pathologist who is inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro, who uses forensic science to solve crimes. Curtis will play Kay’s erratic sister Dorothy, the mother of the recurrent character Lucy Farinelli in the book series.
Curtis’ Blumhouse first-look deal and Cornwell’s connection inspired the Kay Scarpetta TV series. The Halloween star often moderates talks with Cornwell, who has sold over 100M books.
Curtis said in a statement, “Patricia Cornwell is a bonafide literary trailblazer, and collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an entirely new audience is exciting,” Curtis added, “The confluence of Blumhouse and Comet bringing to life a dark, fun and layered work world and family life, spearheaded by the smart and sexy indomitable Kay Scarpetta is going to be a thrilling ride.”
