Ben Affleck is reportedly in talks to direct DCU’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold. According to ABOVE THE LINE, Affleck met with DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss directing a DC project. Ben Affleck played the role of Batman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016), “Suicide Squad” (2016), and “Justice League” (2017).
Ben Affleck’s Batman Script Was Scrapped
Previously, it was reported that Ben Affleck had a script for his Batman character, but it was never developed by Warner Bros. Pictures. “The Batman” director Matt Reeves said Warner Bros. offered him Ben Affleck’s script, and when he read it, it was “James Bond-ian.” Reeves added, “The script includes some of the important DCEU characters.”
“I read a script that they had that was a totally valid take on the movie. It was very action-driven. It was very deeply connected to the DCEU, with other major characters from other movies and other comics popping up. I just knew that when I read it this particular script was not the way I’d want to do it,” Reeves remarked.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold Will Introduce DCU Batman
On Twitter, Gunn said that Batman: The Brave and the Bold will feature his favorite iteration of Robin, Damian Wayne. In the announcement (Via: Digital Spy), he said the character is “a little son of a bitch.” The film will also serve as the “introduction of the DCU Batman”, which we presume means a very different Batman from the one Pattinson has played. The film is also reported to be inspired by Grant Morrison’s run on Batman comics, in which Batman discovers a son he never knew he had.
Apart from acting, Affleck has directed several critically acclaimed films throughout his career. His directing work includes “Gone Baby Gone” (2007), “The Town” (2010), “Argo” (2012), and “Live by Night” (2016). Most recently, Affleck directed the Nike-based biographical drama film “Air” (2023), starring Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, a shoe salesman at Nike, who works to sign rookie Michael Jordan to a deal to wear their shoes. The film will be released in theaters on April 5, 2023, by Amazon Studios.
